On Friday, April 11th, IIDA New England hosted the 3rd annual interior design Student Portfolio Day. Local Bachelor and Graduate level students had the opportunity to present their portfolio to local design professionals in a one-on-one review. Students were given the chance receive insightful feedback from three professionals as well as sit in on three additional student portfolio reviews. A portfolio contest was conducted prior to the event in which students were able to enter their work. This year’s Grand prize winner was Mallory Hudak, Wentworth Institute of Technology ’15. A tie was awarded to two second place winners; Molly Randall, Wentworth Institute of Technology ’14, and Yiwei Zhang, New England School of Art & Design ’14. We were honored to have the event’s keynote speaker, Traci Roloff founder and Vice President of FilzFelt, give an inspiring talk on her fascinating career path.
Following a career in corporate interior design and historic preservation, Ms. Roloff founded FilzFelt in 2008 with Kelly Smith. FilzFelt imports 100% Wool Design Felt from Germany and retails yardage, speciality products including floor coverings and provides custom fabrication services to the trade and end user. In December of 2011, Knoll Inc. acquired FilzFelt however Ms. Roloff remains an integral member in her role as Vice President.
Check out photos from the event. Congratulations to our winners and everyone who participated!
“Portfolio Day is a great opportunity to practice presenting your student work. The event was beneficial in helping me to polish my verbal presentation and made me feel much more confident walking into real interviews. After spending hundreds of hours on my projects, it makes sense to invest just a few more to develop a professional presentation.” – Gina Mosca, New England School of Art & Design 2014
