The Massachusetts Interior Design Coalition (MIDC) filed two bills during the '07-'08 legislative session. Senate Bill 179- Relative to interior designers, sponsored by Senator Cynthia Creem. SB179 encompasses some of the modifications made during the last legislative session. House Bill 3209 sponsored by Representative Lou Kafka focuses specifically on Interior design professionals and that they shall be permitted to bid on state work and offer their services to the Commonwealth and its political subdivisions.
You may have also heard rumors or not even be aware that the Boston
Society of Architects (BSA) also filed bills this session to regulate the interior design profession. The BSA filed House Bill HB 341-An Act relative to certification of interior designers, sponsored by Representative Martin Walsh. MIDC request you contact both your legislators through out this session in support of SB179 and HB3209 and in opposition of HB341. Find your legislators on www.mas.gov.
